So yes, taking the train into Manhattan can be incredibly annoying, BUT!!! It's cheap and better than driving. I ended up commuting to Brooklyn everyday in Feb, and spent most weekends either skiing or in the city -- and for the latter, we always took the train. There are some fabulous restaurants that are well worth the train ride!!!
Also, heeeeyyyy don't knock that Asian food :)
I found an Asian grocery store within a mile and was in heaven!
